Hobart welders: the current lineup, what each needs from your panel, and the 5/3/1 warranty decoded
Hobart welders on rated output, input current, breaker and plug from the manuals, what the 5/3/1 warranty really covers, and how Hobart relates to Miller.
Hobart is Miller’s lower-priced sibling, sold through farm stores and welding suppliers. The machines are mostly simpler transformer welders with a few newer inverters, and the warranty name, 5/3/1, is the most misread line in the brand’s marketing.
Hobart’s manuals publish rated input current, fuse sizes and plug types, and rate output up to 40 C. Most home models are three years parts and labor under the 2026 warranty: the five years in 5/3/1 covers transformers and rectifier parts, not the whole machine. Check the plug: the Handler 140EZ wants a 20 amp circuit.
Hobart machines and what each draws
From Hobart’s owner’s manuals and spec sheets, checked 2026-10-15. Input current is at rated output.
| Model | Processes | Rated output | Input current | Fuse or breaker | Plug or receptacle | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Handler 125 | Mig, flux core | 80 A at 25% (120 V) | 21.3 A | 20 A individual circuit | 5-15R receptacle | 57.5 lb with gun |
| Handler 140EZ | Mig, flux core | 90 A at 30% (120 V) | 25 A | 20 or 30 A individual branch circuit | 5-20R receptacle | 55.6 lb with gun |
| Handler 210i | Mig, flux core | 210 A at 25% (240 V); 90 A at 25% (120 V, 20 A circuit) | See manual | 240 V: 50 A time-delay, 60 A normal | 6-50P; 120 V by adapter | 26 lb with gun |
| Handler 210MVP | Mig, flux core | 150 A at 30% (230 V); 90 A at 20% (115 V) | 24 A (230 V), 20 A (115 V) | Not published | 5-15P and 6-50P | 79 lb |
| IronMan 240 | Mig, flux core | 280 A at 30%, 200 A at 60% (240 V) | 55.3 A | 60 A time-delay, 80 A normal | 6-50P | See note |
| Multi-Handler 200 | Mig, flux core, stick, DC tig | Mig 200 A at 15% (240 V); 100 A at 40% (120 V) | 20.9 A mig (120 V) | 120 V: 15 or 20 A circuit | 5-15P, 6-50P | 38.4 lb |
| Stickmate 160 | DC stick | 160 A at 15% (240 V); 80 A at 15% (120 V) | 34.0 A max (240 V), 30.3 A max (120 V) | 240 V: 40 A time-delay, 50 A normal | 6-50P, adapter to 5-15P | 10.6 lb |
| AirForce 27i plasma | Air plasma | 30 A at 40% (240 V); 27 A at 35% (120 V, 20 A circuit) | 14.7 A (240 V), 26.1 A (120 V) | Not published | 5-15P, 6-50P | 19 lb |
Notes. The IronMan 240’s weight is 205 lb in its manual and 186 lb on Hobart’s product page, so we print neither. The 210MVP has no owner’s manual linked on its product page; its numbers are from the spec sheet. The Handler 125 manual says indoor use only.
No longer on Hobart’s equipment pages: the original Handler 140, Handler 190, IronMan 230, Stickmate 160i and LX235, and EZ-TIG 165i. The Multi-Handler 200 is now Hobart’s only tig-capable machine.
The 140EZ is the one to check before buying: 25 amps at rated output is more than a 15 amp circuit carries, which is why Hobart specifies a 20 amp receptacle. How these numbers meet your panel is in what size breaker a welder needs and welder amp draw.
Rated at 40 C, like Miller
Hobart’s manuals say the machines deliver rated output at ambient temperatures up to 104 F (40 C), the international standard basis, so Hobart’s duty cycles compare directly with Miller’s and Lincoln’s. The Handler 210i manual adds that exceeding duty cycle can damage the unit and void the warranty. Why the temperature matters is in welder duty cycle.
The 5/3/1 warranty, line by line
From Hobart’s warranty effective January 1, 2026, for equipment with serial numbers beginning NG or newer:
| Term | What it covers |
|---|---|
| 5 years, parts and labor | Transformers, stabilizers, capacitors, and original main power rectifiers in non-inverter products |
| 3 years, parts and labor | Inverter power sources, transformer/rectifier power sources, drive systems, PC boards, switches and controls |
| 1 year (90 days for industrial use) | Mig guns and tig torches, plasma torches, spool guns, flowgauge regulators (no labor), accessories |
| 90 days, parts only | Replacement parts |
So a Handler 140EZ is a three year machine, with five years on its transformer and rectifier parts. A Handler 210i or Multi-Handler 200, as inverters, is three years.
Conditions worth knowing:
- Original retail purchaser. The clock starts on delivery to you.
- You pay freight. Returns need Hobart’s or Miller’s written approval, at your risk and expense.
- Detailed claims. Online claims must describe the fault and the troubleshooting done, or may be denied.
- Excluded: consumables, modification, improper installation or operation, missed maintenance, use outside the specifications, accident and unauthorized repair. The Multi-Handler 200 manual adds that modifying the power cord or plugs voids the warranty.
- Intended users. The warranty states Hobart products are intended for commercial and industrial users trained in welding equipment.

Hobart and Miller
In Hobart’s own terms of sale, Hobart Welding Products is a division of Miller Electric Mfg. LLC, a subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works. The warranty is issued by Miller Electric doing business as Hobart, claims follow Miller’s service guide, and repairs go to Hobart or Miller authorized service agencies. Hobart says it has more than 800 authorized service distributors and ships most replacement parts within 24 hours. Hobart does not say which internal parts, if any, its machines share with Miller’s; we do not guess.
Manuals and parts lists are searchable by model or serial number on Hobart’s support site. Hobart does not publish how long it keeps parts for a model.

Where Hobart sits on this site
No Hobart machine is ranked in our roundups yet: when we built best mig welders, the Handler 210MVP listing had no buy box. It is buyable again now. Hobart’s wire and rods, sold under the Hobart name, appear in mig welding wire and welding rods. For the parent brand on the same terms, see Miller welders; for the other established name, Lincoln Electric welders; for a catalog brand repaired only by its seller, Eastwood.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hobart made by Miller?
Hobart's terms of sale describe Hobart Welding Products as a division of Miller Electric Mfg. LLC, a subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works. The warranty is issued by Miller Electric Mfg. LLC doing business as Hobart, and Hobart products are serviced by Hobart or Miller authorized service agencies. Hobart does not publish whether its machines share internal parts with Miller models.
Is the Hobart 5/3/1 warranty five years?
Only on certain parts. Under the warranty effective January 1, 2026, five years covers transformers, stabilizers, capacitors and original main power rectifiers in non-inverter products. Inverter power sources and transformer/rectifier power sources as a whole get three years, parts and labor. Guns, torches and spool guns get one year.
Can a Hobart Handler 140EZ run on a household outlet?
Its manual calls for a 20 or 30 amp individual branch circuit and a NEMA 5-20R receptacle, and lists 25 amps of input at rated output. A shared 15 amp kitchen-style circuit is not what Hobart specifies.
Hobart or Lincoln?
Both state duty cycle at 40 C and both give three years parts and labor on their home welders. Hobart's warranty adds five years on transformers and rectifier parts in non-inverter machines; Lincoln requires purchase from an authorized seller for its warranty start date. Compare the specific models; see our Lincoln page.
